My Vision For St. Anthony
1
Ensuring Everyone's Voice Is Heard
I believe that true progress comes from engaging community members in meaningful conversations, building relationships, and creating a sense of connectedness with one another. That means remaining open to input from each and every resident, and centering the voices, perspectives, and concerns of those who have been underrepresented to date. This doesn't just mean racial or ethnic minorities, but our differently-abled neighbors and residents of diverse economic groups.

We can’t fully appreciate our path forward as a city without understanding how all of our identities impact our experiences, both the good and the bad. And we can't do that, without ensuring our residents play an active role in the decisions being made on their behalf. Every policy decision I make on behalf of our community will be informed by an intersectional analysis that’s grounded in equal representation.
2
Building Community
In order to grow community, we need to provide avenues for that growth to follow. Literally. Enhancing public spaces will encourage community connection and engagement. We have amazing parks in St Anthony AND we have the opportunity for them to be even better with equipment that's accessible to our differently-abled residents. I would also advocate for expanding and improving bike paths to make it safer and more accessible to walk and bike our beautiful city, and most importantly, a Third Place.
Our community needs a free space to gather, relax, and be together. A place with no barrier to entry, where kids can play safely indoors while their parents relax close-by. A place where residents from every generation can gather together and build the relationships that make St. Anthony such a magical place.
3
Sustainability
Sustainable development employs forward-thinking tactics to address present issues without compromising the needs of future generations. I will push for community-facing programs/opportunities that will help us meet the city's current climate plans, and will give our residents the option to choose greener alternatives that meet their families needs.

This looks like:
-
curbside composting services through our waste removal providers
-
alternative transportation for those who would choose not to or are unable to drive
-
programs designed to encourage individual solar options
-
working with other communities to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and sharing resources
-
pursuing grants and federal/state funding where available to improve our community and reduce our tax burden on our residents
4
Protecting Public Safety
After 14 years as a criminal prosecutor for the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, I deeply understand every aspect of the criminal justice process and will use my expertise to make decisions that protect the people of our community.

Progress doesn’t have to mean overhaul, but staying curious, asking questions, welcoming opposing viewpoints, and being willing to have difficult conversations will ensure our community evolves with the world around us.

Together, with trust and open communication, we can work to have a safer St. Anthony, where all members of our community can live and thrive together!
5
Affordable Housing
It's not currently accessible for the people who work here – our teachers, community center workers, police officers, and fire department – to actually live here. We have a responsibility to care for the people who are caring for us.
We can do this by:
-
protecting affordable housing that already exists by providing incentives to building owners to renovate vs. selling to developers who will raise prices
-
encourage owner-occupied affordable housing
-
exploring vacant spaces for development opportunities
-
look to other cities for guidance who have been successful

Affordable housing doesn't just benefit the people who live in it. It creates a workforce for our local businesses, reduces traffic congestion, helps stabilize our schools, and allows people who grew up in St Anthony to be able to afford to buy a house here.
